As a Certified Personal Trainer, long-term chronic pain patient, and movement junkie, I’ve experienced firsthand just how vital movement is to our quality of life (or lack thereof). Indeed, modern science has made remarkable advances as it pertains to both the biology and treatment of this thing we call “pain.” Combine these facts with the knowledge that RockTape has regarding pain-free movement and you have one very eager student of all things mobility — ready, willing, and downright stoked for her first “Functional Movement Techniques” class (or FMT for short).

If you’re on the fence about whether or not you should attend a RockTape FMT course, this post is for you! Read on for a few highlights that I hope will make your decision to register just a little bit easier.

#1: You don’t have to quit your day job.
Classes are conveniently held in 1- to 2-day packages with plenty of weekend (or close to the weekend) options. CEUs are often offered as well, depending on your profession and/or location. You’ll leave your class or classes with a shiny new certification in hand, a mind chock full of knowledge, and a renewed passion for your patients and clients. All in just a few days’ time!

#2: You’re surrounded by greatness.
There is nothing more gratifying than spending a few days with people who share your passion for health and wellness. From physical therapists to chiropractors to massage therapists and personal trainers, you’re guaranteed to be immersed in an environment that is both intellectually stimulating and rewarding to boot. I personally had the honor of enjoying an unplanned lunchtime conversation with our instructor — an experience that I value greatly and will never forget!

#3: You move around a lot.
“Death by PowerPoint” this is not! Yes, there is a lecture component involved to facilitate learning but you’ll spend plenty of time moving around as well. If you’re like me and have a limited tolerance to sitting, you’ll feel right at home — spontaneous movement and doing what is necessary for your own comfort is greatly encouraged.

#4: You learn (and tape) a lot.
You’ll walk into the classroom prepared as course materials are sent out ahead of time. You’ll walk out of the classroom taped, flossed, or otherwise IASTMed — and you’ll love every minute of it. Be ready to learn about and discuss the latest and greatest research in pain theory, movement dynamics, and how the RockTape family of products plays its part in both pain management and athletic performance. As practitioners, the best way of learning often comes by doing — and you’ll do a lot!

#5: You have fun!
This is not your average certification course. My FMT classroom experience was a breath of fresh air, a wealth of information, and a lot of laughs. I walked in with an open mind and walked out with a new set of skills and an even deeper reverence for the simplistic complexity that is human movement. I made connections with people that I can’t wait to rekindle at RockStock in just a few short months. Best of all, I’m smiling as I write this article — proof that you can have your cake and tape it, too!
